Webelos Winter Weekend
| Webelos
Winter Weekend is an annual Webelos event held at Tana Keeta Scout reservation,
located in Gulf stream Council and sponsored by Troop 836 of Lighthouse
District. The even began in 1986 in the youth area at Jonathon Dickinson
State park with approximately 50 participants and continued there for
the next three years, until the weekend grew too large for the park.
In 1989 WWW moved to Tana Keeta's primitive area at Clear Lake. Participation
continued to grow until numbers reached over 400 and again out grew
the space available. At this point WWW moved to the main camp where
it continues until this day. The program provides both first and second
year activities for participants, with about six to eight choices for
each group. Second year participants also have the chance to hike the
Mike Machack trail. This is a five miler around the perimeter of TK
and can be a real adventure. Troop 237's evolvement began in 1990 when
we began to provide both adult and youth staffing to the program. Over
the years 237 has provided several events, including five years running
the evening campfire, however has settled into providing instruction
in Dutch oven cooking, patrol camping techniques, backpacking and most
recently historic flags for the second year WeBeLoS and team building
exorcises for the first year WeBeLoS. The trail is often quite wet and
returning hikers return wet and muddy. The Troop intends to continue
it's participation at WWW and hope that this premier event will continue
to prosper and provide this excellent program to South Florida WeBeLoS. |
