Weekend Camping
(Patrol Camping)
| Many of the weekend campouts that Troop 237 participates in are Patrol method outings. This means that each patrol will be supplied with their standard patrol equipment. Patrol cook boxes, rain flys, coolers tables and of course tents. When packing personnel gear for these campouts be sure and bring mess kits and all you standard gear. Pack in the same manner as you would for any campout, being sure to protect against rain. If you have a backpack, use it, it is just easier to carry everything in one compact package than in a whole bunch of different bags. Many BSA camps require the scout to carry his stuff from the parking lot to the campsite and a backpack makes it much more comfortable. | |
Patrol cooking: Patrol cooking is a standard method on campouts and each Scout in the patrol will be asked at do the shopping for his patrol at different times. If he is conscious in this duty there should be disquiet funds available to cover the approved menus. STICK TO THE MENU!! PLAN THE QUANITIES!! |
Duty Rosters: A duty roster that assigns all the jobs required to prepare each meal and clean up after, is necessary to assure that all the worked is evenly distributed amongst the Patrol members. KEEP IT FAIR!! A duty roster is also important so that each Scout has a chance to develop his cooking skills. There is no reason why you should not eat very well on a campout. |
